Welcome to Jink — Led by Dr. John Turner
An official introduction to your faculty: meet the instructors, who will tell you a little about their plans for the next fortnight, and play some getting-to-know-you tunes to initiate a fun two weeks of fiddling online. Bring your instrument to play along!
Friday 7/30, 8:15 - 9:15 p.m. [EDT]
Instructors' Concert — Featuring the faculty of Online Jink 2021
Your instructors present some of their favorite selections from the Scottish music tradition — fiery reels, mighty strathspeys, soaring airs, and more!
Monday 8/2, 7:00 - 9:15 p.m. [EDT]
The Jink Practice Competition - MC'd by Ralph Gordon - feedback provided by members of the Jink faculty
A long-time Jink tradition, this event is a chance for you to feel what it’s like to participate in a traditional Scottish Air + MSR performance. At Jink, this is a welcoming, friendly, supportive event where new folks can try out the feel of a brand new MSR, and growing/experienced Scottish fiddlers can hone their performance skills. Each performer will play part or all of an Air + MSR program, and receive constructive, written feedback from our panel of faculty “judges.” No points, no prizes, no comparisons - just a chance for folks to play for each other and improve their traditional Scottish-style performance skills.
NOTE: Sign-up in advance is required. If you didn’t pre-register for the competition on your Registration Form but would now like to do so, please email jinkdiddle@aol.com with subject line COMPETITION to check if a spot is available. The number of ‘competitors’ may have to be limited.
Friday 8/6, 8:15 - 9:15 p.m. [EDT]
Ceilidh / Student Concert – Featuring …. all of YOU!
The fun and traditional end to Jink & Diddle, featuring special performances, presentations, and hilarity from any students who wish to offer something. Sign up to share a tune, a poem, a skit, a dance (serious or silly) … or really anything that makes you happy!
NOTE: Sign-up in advance is required. If you didn’t pre-register for the ceilidh on your Registration Form but would now like to take part, please email jinkdiddle@aol.com with subject line CEILIDH to check if a spot is available. The number of performers may have to be limited.
